Backup Camera Install

Parts Needed

PIONEER ND-BC2  Rear View Camera - Proaudio e-bay $159.99 + $12.99 shipping = $172.98

NavTool Navigation Interface for Lincoln Navigator - $199.00 e-bay + $19.99 shipping = $218.99

NavTool comes with wiring harness that plugs into the back of the navigation DVD unit accessed from the driver's side console panel. The only wiring I had to do was to connect the Blue NavTool wire to the Black w/Pink stripe wire that comes out of the back of the original plug that was plugged into the back of the Nav DVD unit that is now plugged into the NavTool wiring harness (see picture below). When the ignition is on the NavTool LED lights up and when putting the vehicle in reverse the nav screen goes blank for the camera.

Next was to connect the camera to make sure it worked before installing it on the back of the vehicle. The Pioneer camera is a universal camera and has a little metal connection box that the power and the camera connect to (see pictures below). I wired the Pioneer camera power to the Navtool power supply which made it very easy to install since I did not have to figure out which wire was an ignition wire. The Navtool power wire comes off of it's own wiring harness now getting ignition power from the original nav unit. I'm going to double sided tape the camera to the heavy steel Lincoln rear license plate frame right below the rear window release a little to the left of center. In the center the camera interfers with the rear hatch release.

Once this was all hooked up, turn the ignition on, put it into reverse and magic, I had a video picture.

Total time to install, 1 hour for under console and 2 hours to install camera and run wires, 3 hours total.

It works, with ignition on and in reverse, camera comes to life!!!

Finished install, velcro to floor, tape Pioneer unit to top of NavTool.

Double sided taped to rear of steel license frame, wire run thru separation above plate.

I used a large stiff wire tie to fish the cable thru the hatch boot. Then put it all back together.

Boot put back together. Used steel fish tape to run cable thru headliner to rear door, then down drivers door pillar, under kick panel, under carpet to connection under console.

Nav screen rear camera comes on any time you put vehicle in reverse, no matter what screen is up. Top black curved border is top of license plate insert, bottom black curved border is top of bumper.
